gravitysex:

Hey guys! Perhaps some of you already know this, but I am spending this semester volunteering at an amazing organization in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The school is called Escuela de Educacion Especial and it is for children who are deaf.  We have 18 students ranging in ages from 2-31 and we spend our days assisting in the classrooms, kitchen, and helping with other activities.  In Mexico, deaf education is very under-funded, and almost non-existent.  Many of our students are teenagers, and this is the first time in their life that they are in a school that properly serves their needs.  Our mission is to provide every child who is deaf in the San Miguel de Allende area with the quality education that each one of them deserves.

San Miguel is a gorgeous place to visit (Google image the place!) and I’m so blessed to be here with my friends volunteering at such a special place.

HOWEVER, I need your help!  We are in the midst of the September Fundraising Challenge for GlobalGiving.com, a well-known and established fundraising site.  Help us get to 1st place!!  If we do well, we will gain many resources that will help us run the school and provide the education they deserve.

A donation of as little as $10 will feed a child breakfast for a month.  We are also have hopes to build a library, provide professional development for our teachers, and provide transportation to seven kids that can only come to school 2-3 days a week because they live 45 minutes away and cannot afford bus fare.

Thank you for your consideration in helping us in our mission to provide every student who is deaf in the SMA area with an education.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, I couldn’t recommend it more!  Email the volunteer coordinator (and my old Spanish teacher!) at volunteerinfo@eeesma.com

Reblog this to spread the word!

The attached post is from one of my volunteers (and former students, and Tumblr goddess!!!). Please read, look at her pics, and read my request below:

My family and I recently moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to work as volunteer coordinators at Escuela de Educación Especial, a school for the deaf. Deaf education is almost non-existent in Mexico and for most of these kids, this is their first time in an academic setting that serves their needs.

We are currently trying to raise funds in hopes to build a library, provide professional development for teachers, and provide transportation costs for seven students who live 45 minutes away and can only come 2-3 days a week because they cannot afford bus fare.

A donation as small as $10 would feed a child a nourishing breakfast for one whole month. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
